Veteran chef Frederik De Pue is returning to D.C. with an bold downtown bistro that hopes to make private dining section of its lure.

The Henri, at 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., in between the Nationwide Theatre and Warner Theatre, and a few blocks from the White Property, will open up Feb. 15. In addition to the principal dining place with an open, rotisserie kitchen area, the 8,000-square-foot room has 6 soundproof private dining rooms and a rooftop that overlooks the Countrywide Shopping mall.



The private dining rooms are accessed by a separate hostess stand or non-public entrance, and can be converted into bigger spaces for small business meetings and exclusive activities. The private eating rooms share a different central kitchen and different bar, and every has individual audio/video clip techniques.

De Pue used three several years coming up with the cafe himself.

“I needed to provide adaptable, modular non-public eating areas to accommodate any style of accumulating. The Henri is intended to be a one of a kind experience for anyone as the possibilities are countless,” De Pue reported.

De Pue, a Belgian native who worked at some of the major restaurants in Europe prior to going to the U.S., began his D.C. job as a chef for District embassies. Earlier places to eat below have incorporated Desk, Azure and Menu MBK. He now owns Flamant in Annapolis, and has operated catering companies for decades.

Main course menu costs for The Henri selection from $32 to $44 and involve butter poached Atlantic cod, wild boar lasagna and veal cheeks Carbonnade. From the French rotisserie oven, there is a 50 percent rooster, lamb T-bone, venison sausage and pork shoulder.

Appetizers involve mackerel apple tartar, bonnet suckling pig crepe and saffron broiled prawns. There also is a dessert and cheese and charcuterie menu.

The Henri, named immediately after De Pue’s grandfather, will initially be open up from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. day by day, with lunch and breakfast possibilities included in the foreseeable future.
